Job Description
The Network Engineer is responsible for collaborating with engineers and architects to design and implement a flexible, secure, and scalable Software Defined Networking platform for existing and new virtual enterprise systems. This position requires a broad knowledge of networking and internet technologies, as the engineer is expected to support all related products to resolve technical problems as they relate to the software defined network. We are looking to move the enterprise to SDN technologies and will need to integrate with traditional networking based on Cisco products during the transition. Ideal candidates will have experience with enterprise network operations, and will have direct, on-keyboard experience with traditional Cisco networking.
You Will
Design a flexible, secure, and scalable Software Defined Network that meets all customer business, operational, and functional requirements
Implement and support the systems as designed to ensure reliable operation of the SDN solution.
Be part of a traditional networking teams to ensure seamless interaction between SDN and physical networking infrastructure.
Work with architects and engineering groups to develop enterprise integration, operational guidelines, and supportability documentation.
Collaborate with other teams to integrate vendor technology and with existing enterprise and customer requirements.
Provide Tier 3 support to operations staff to assist with problems requiring vendor engineering engagement.
Provide briefings of design and implementation plans to direct management and to the leadership chains.
Provide testbed demos and proof of concepts to ensure that systems meet requirements.
Ensure that design and implementation of SDN systems meet all security compliance requirements.
Mentor junior engineers and administrators to ensure that they can maintain appropriate skills to support implemented designs.
You Have
Broad knowledge of enterprise networking technology. For example: Cisco IOS, Routers, BGP and OSPF routing protocols, Load Balancing, SNAT/DNAT, IPSec, DNS, TCP/IP, VLANs, EVPN Fabrics, and other general services.
Palo Alto and ASA Firewalls
Silver Peak or other SD WAN platforms
Experience working with Cisco or other Layer 2, 3, and 4 networking products
General knowledge of Software Defined Networking concepts
Experience, solid understanding and support of Linux operating systems
Experience in providing security and network support for physical networking and firewall services.
Experience monitoring network deployment and configuration of hardware and software services
Ability to analyze existing systems and provide documentation and recommendations for continuing service improvement.
5+ years in enterprise network engineering roles
A Bachelor’s degree or higher in relevant studies would be preferred, but is not required.
Be Impressed If You Had Experience With
Direct experience with Software Defined Networking using VMware NSX, Nutanix, OpenStack or similar.
Experience HAProxy, NGINX, PFSense
Experience with cloud networking technologies, such as AWS or Azure
Experience with automation tools, such as Chef, Puppet, or Ansible.
Scripting or programming experience with Python, JavaScript, PowerShell, Bash, C++, etc.
Experience in an enterprise Operations (OPS/NOC/Watch) Support role
like to see relevant certifications, or the ability to obtain them:
Cumulus Certified Open Networking Professional (CCONP)
Cisco certifications such as CCNP, CCNA, or CCIE
